What is a Soul Mate

How many of us think that we have met our soul mate, but are then disappointed after the true personality comes out. That time when everything seems rosy, perfect, right at the start of the relationship, slips away when we find out that much of the real person we have married, or set up house with, is not who we thought they were.

In this instance we have not connected properly with the essence of the person we are in a relationship with. We have allowed lust, desire, financial position and other superficial considerations to be our rose tinted glasses.

A soul mate can be known almost within days of first contact, should we be observant enough. But how many of us are that observant? Not many, and many soul mates can only be identified as such after many years of working in partnership.

A soul mate is a person:

  • Who one stays in love with.
  • Whose hand you want to hold 25 years after first meeting them.
  • Who is tolerant of your wrong doings and offers help to correct them.
  • Who accepts you for what you are and offers gentle advice for improvement.
  • Who tells you when they are upset without fear of retribution.
  • Who will work with you hand in hand in the most difficult of situations.
  • Who will not leave you when the going gets tough.
  • Who would rather be poor and ‘in love’ together, than rich and ‘existing’ together.
  • Who praises us when we succeed, and consoles us when we fail, understanding the benefit of both outcomes.
  • Who is strong for you, and be there for you, in your darkest times.
  • Who is satisfied with you and what you have.
  • Who helps to stretch you.
  • Who catches you when you fall.
  • Who gives you your independence when you want it.
  • Who trusts you – without doubt.
  • Who helps you realize your full potential.
  • Who you would give up your life for.
  • Who needs to be cherished, for they are a gift from God.

These are just a few things that identify what a soul mate is. Look for them when choosing your life-long partner. Take your time and choose well.
